Cotterstone specialises
in producing, with complete accuracy and attention to detail, some
of the most beautiful and elegant garden ornaments and architectural
stonework in the world.
PROCESS
Cotterstone is a moulded composition
stone, made of selected aggregates, cement and bonding agents. The
process of casting stone has been used for garden and architectural
ornamentation since the early 1920's.
Each piece is handmade using a special process,
to ensure a finished texture virtually indistinguishable from natural
stone with superior durability, at a fraction of the price.
CHOOSING A FINISH
All pieces are available in the four colours
as shown below. However the colours can vary depending on dampness,
age, light and weather conditions. Cotterstone also produce
a Heritage Range. This includes both a honing and a rust colour
finish on various products.

AGEING
Cotterstone is porous and ages naturally.
The colour and texture of the material is that of natural stone,
and its composition can encourage the spontaneous growth of mosses
and lichens, giving it an aged quality like the original.
Aging can be encouraged by placing the item
near a well established area of lichen or by rubbing the lichen
spores onto the surface. In direct sun, the aging process is slower
to develop than pieces left in shady, damp places.
There are chemical aging lotions available
but be careful as they tend the make the process look unrealistic.
WATERPROOFING
A coat of clear sealer can be applied to protect pieces from aging
or for converting planters and urns to water features.
CARE OF COTTERSTONE PRODUCTS
A few simple precautions will ensure Cotterstone
products have a long life. The material itself needs no special
maintenance as long as the pieces are not exposed to extreme conditions.
To ensure extended life of your Cotterstone product it is
recommended that pots, planters, troughs and urns (especially large
ones) are wet down externally when watering the plant.
The composition enables it to age gracefully
in the garden encouraged by the elements, the mellow signs of aging
add immeasurably to the look of Cotterstone. However if you
prefer to maintain your product to its original state you may do
so by sealing with a masonry or paving sealer.
Cotterstone is frost proof making
it perfect for any application.
